Refill lighter

We often receive messages through our customer service asking why a lighter does not work immediately after receipt, or how a "broken" lighter can be fixed.

Often, a lighter that you have just received or have had for a short time is not actually broken. First, you need to empty the lighter you have at home, refill it, and adjust the flame size. In 90% of cases, most problems are resolved this way.

You have purchased a storm lighter from us, and now you want to know: How do I properly refill a storm lighter? With what gas? etc. We will explain exactly on this page how you can do this yourself with a few simple steps and tips.

First of all, all our lighters are only half filled from the factory. This is a legal requirement to comply with safety standards. Therefore, depending on usage, you may need to refill it quite soon after purchase.

  • Step 1: Make sure you have not used your lighter for at least 10 minutes before refilling. It needs to return to room temperature before filling/emptying the lighter.

  • Step 2: Now make sure the lighter is completely empty. To be sure your lighter is really empty, hold the lighter upside down.. then take an object with a point (for example a pen) and carefully press it on the center valve. (Be careful with your own safety, keep a safe distance from your face.) There is a small pin there through which the remaining gas can escape from the lighter. Repeat this a few times to be sure your lighter is completely empty.

  • Step 3: Now take your gas refill, note.. It is important to use butane gas (45 psi pressure recommended) from a good brand to ensure proper functioning of your lighter. Our torches are very sensitive to different types of gas and also if mixed, the performance of your lighter can decrease. That is why it is very important to first completely empty your lighter.

Now take the gas can, shake it a few times back and forth and press the valve of the gas can firmly and precisely onto the valve of the lighter. Do this for about 3 seconds and repeat up to 3 times. Make sure you do not hear a hissing sound because this means the gas can is not filling properly and may even blow air into the lighter, resulting in poor ignition.

When filling, watch your hands, the gas can be very cold so it is advisable to put a washcloth between your hand and the can or you can also use safety gloves.

  • Step 4: After filling, it is very important to give your lighter time to return to room temperature. Therefore, let it rest for at least 5/10 minutes.

After resting, try to ignite your lighter gently on a medium setting and not immediately on high.

    Tips:

    • Do not wait to refill until the lighter is completely empty. This can cause the gas pressure to become too low and the lighter may work less well. When the flame starts to get lower, it is better to refill the lighter with new lighter gas. Think of it like not waiting to refuel a car.

    • Butane gas lighters may ignite less well when the temperature is below freezing. If the lighter does not ignite immediately in cold conditions, this usually does not mean there is something wrong with the lighter, but simply that it is too cold for proper gas evaporation.

    • Refill your lighter in a safe place. We recommend doing this in the sink, preferably in a well-ventilated area. Always keep the lighter away from open flames during filling and think about your own safety.

    • You can suffer thermal injury because the gas during filling is very cold and well below freezing. It is therefore important not to hold your hands too close to the filling valve and to watch out for any spraying gas.
